Sir Grange really earns its stripes is in terms of its exceptional levels of tolerance to drought, shade and how well it resists wear and tear.
It is more and more frequently being seen on golf courses around the world for these reasons alone, and any time you drive by a home that has a particularly eye-catching lawn, there’s a strong possibility that you’re appreciating the beauty of Sir Grange.
In terms of care and maintenance, the good news is that it does not require that much water, with some studies showing that it needs less than Sir Walter Buffalo. And, even in warm dry climates and challenging heat, it will maintain its luscious deep colour.
Sir Grange grass was initially developed for the U.S. golf course industry. However, people soon realized that it could make a wonderful lawn for residential use. This fine-leaf, sun-tolerant grass requires at least 50% less fertiliser and mowing than other grass varieties. Sir Grange Zoysia is an excellent option if you're looking for a fine, soft-leaf, deep-green turf that offers excellent shade resistance, low maintenance, salt tolerance, and exceptional drought resistance.

Sir Grange Zoysia grass can withstand extreme weather conditions and the harsh Australian summer heat, thanks to its high drought tolerance. It can also bear up to sub-freezing temperatures, meaning it can survive year-round. Sir Grange Zoysia is also self-repairing and can restore itself when damaged. And this grass can withstand large amounts of traffic and wear, thanks to its high-wear tolerance.
Mowing can help your grass grow thicker because the tips of grass blades contain hormones that suppress horizontal growth. By cutting the lawn and removing these tips, you allow the grass to spread and grow thicker close to the roots.
When fully established, Zoysia grass becomes so dense that it chokes out most summer weeds and replaces existing grass. Zoysia is especially effective in chocking out crabgrass, an annoying, aggressive weed. You can expect to have a weed-free, attractive Zoysia lawn within two to three years after planting Sir Grange Zoysia grass.
It's best to mow Zoysia grass at the height of 2-5cm above the soil line. You can make the initial cut shorter to eliminate dead leaf tissue and accelerate the green-up rate. It will help if you don't allow newly laid Zoysia lawn to grow too long before you start mowing as mowing earlier helps to strengthen and thicken the new grass, giving you a healthier-looking lawn.
