Zoysia Australis was bred at the University of Georgia, Tifton Campus. Dr Brian Schwartz is person responsible for creating another successful turf variation. The first being the TifTuf Hybrid Bermuda.
Zoysia Australis prefers full sun to medium shade and thrives in free-draining soils. It's also drought-tolerant, making it ideal for Aussie conditions.
For optimal health and appearance, mow Zoysia Australis to a height of around 15-25mm.
Mow Zoysia Australis once every 2-3 weeks during the growing season, depending on its growth rate and desired height.
It's recommended to aerate your Zoysia Australis lawn once a year, preferably during its active growing season.
Regular mowing, proper fertilisation, and ensuring good watering practices will encourage a thick, lush growth of Zoysia Australis.
Other types of Zoysia grass include Zoysia japonica, Zoysia matrella, and Zoysia tenuifolia, each having its unique attributes suitable for different conditions.
A light topdressing of sand can benefit Zoysia grass by levelling the lawn and aiding water infiltration. However, avoid heavy sand layers as they might smother the grass.
